Ebook About Being an escort was supposed to be a means to an end. A quick, temporary way to save money for culinary school. Then Thornwell Shipton became my client.Thorne is wealthy beyond belief, sophisticated as heck, and hotter than the sun. He’s also uptight, closeted, way older than me, and a total workaholic who’s terrified of relationships. In other words, we’re total opposites, and the two of us should never have developed feeling for each other… except, somehow we’re perfect together. And neither of us can get enough.Suddenly being with Thorne is about more than just our scorching nights together, it’s about respect and trust. It’s about Thorne admitting he wants things he’s denied himself for years—soft, caring things. Dirty things. Things that force him to open his heart, not just his body, and make me want to do the same. But how can I convince a man like Thorne to risk everything and fight for the future we both want—one where we end up together with no professional distance between us at all?Book Professional Distance (Thorne and Dash Book 1) Review :
Thorne, 42, is an idiot most of the time. He's a workaholic and pays for sex with a rent boy regularly to satisfy himself. This particular Friday, his usual guy, Marc, is no longer available, so he says yes to try someone new.Dash is different; a challenge for Thorne. Dash, 22, with dirty blonde curly hair and hazel eyes, is working to save money for school, and turns out to be perfect for prickly Thorne. Their sex is off-the-charts spectacular, with BDSM, roughness, degrading language, and it's everything Thorne wants. They switch roles, each man being satisfied, and enjoying their sexy times.Dash adds to their time together by being forceful and teaches Thorne more ways to accomplish real relaxation; like talking, eating and watching movies, too. Thorne is learning just how much he's been missing out on. As their scorching sex continues, so does the togetherness. Each man is falling for the other, but how could it possibly work? What about the age gap? Unfortunately, just as each man realizes they are "in love," Thorne opens his mouth and screws it all up. Both are miserable until Thorne comes up with a way to open up their standoff.I like Thorne, even if he was an moron at times, and Dash/Riley is so in need of Thorne. They could really be perfect together, and we've seen the glimpses of how wonderful it could be for them. I love Sylvia Violet's lively story, deep characters, and satisfying outcomes.Highly recommended. ENJOY !===== I really wish I could write the positive (glowing) review that most readers of Professional Distance have done. Although the author is a decent writer, in the sense that she is descriptive and can move a plot forward, I felt that the falling in love with a paid escort plot was frankly silly. (Disclaimer: NOT a fan of "Pretty Woman" either.) I had NO belief in the escort agency that supplied Dash's services, or in Dash as an escort. He and Thorne fall into instalust. Although the author tries her darnedest to make that more, it eluded me for about 90% of the story.Frankly I think these characters and this story could have worked much more effectively if Thorne had simply been the emotionally closed-off, closeted workaholic and Riley had simply been a free-spirited, younger wanna-be struggling chef and *not* an escort. The two characters were just strong enough to deserve a better plot. The "conflict" should have focused on Thorne's fear of coming out, their age difference and Riley's fear of not being good enough (in terms of position, class) for Thorne. These are all believable reasons for emotional conflict. The escort plot seemed (to me) to be an excuse for a lot of sex. Make that a story-overwhelming amount of sex. It was great that the guys had a sexual connection. Not so great when their sexual connection began to undermine the growth of the emotional one. I thought the characters could have been better served if Riley could have broken through Thorne's emotional barriers with, say, *just* his youthful charm, his food, and his joie de vivre. Instead we get a lot of ready-made sturm-n-drang about Riley's profession, and the ready-made need (or is it excuse) for lots and lots and more lots of sex, both on and off the clock. Also, I knew I was in trouble when the author's mentions of certain classic 1980's movies made me stop reading the book and go over to YouTube. I experienced difficulty staying focused on the story for its second half (right around the time Thorne's ice began to crack). I would stop reading and not feel any need to continue. Always a bad sign.Someone reading this review may ask - well why'd you buy the book? - The plot is announced, after all. Because I was hoping for a heartfelt drama that might actually make me a fan of Pretty Woman-like stories, but in this case I just kept wishing the "Pretty Woman" elements would go away.I will admit that Thorne's re-work of a certain classic moment from a certain 1980's film is great. The author did a good job of leading into that, and it was an unexpected signal of the strength of his feelings for Riley.Spoiler alert!! --Also, I really lol'ed at the reaction of one of Thorne's co-workers when Thorne finally comes out at work. "Whatever. You don't work with your dick."-- End of spoiler --All in all? This is a story with some unbelievable plot points and twists that didn't serve two fairly engaging characters. It sacrificed the believable (age difference, class difference) for the unbelievable (Pretty Man). Mercy.
